TERRITORY

Sverdlovsk district is situated in the south-east part of Luhansk region, and it borders on Rostov region of Russian Federation.

The total area is 1,300 sq. km.

The population is 133,000 people, urban -120,400; 3 villages, and 35 small villages are subordinate to Sverdlovsk as district center Sverdlovsk is 80 km from Luhansk , 15 km - from the Dolzhans'k railway customs, 300 km - from the seaport of Mariupol' .

The territory has road network of 166 km long , which links the district with Kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Rostov.

The railway infrastructure is highly developed.

There are deposits of coal, sandstone, limestone, other clays (over 50 kinds).

The unique place is Proval's'k reserve. Its area is 587 ha.

The Royal Mountains of 319 m high lie from east to west. There are mineral springs rich with sulphate, hydrocarbonate, pottasium, sodium and magnesium. 6 rivers flow on its territory. The total area of 30 lakes and reservoirs is 140 ha.

ECONOMY

The economical potential is represented by 65 industrial enterprises, 330 small companies, 3,168 legal entities.

Industry's stake in GDP is 97.5 per cent.

The biggest companies are" Sverdlovanthracite" JSC (7 mines and 4 concentrating mills], JC " Interalloy" (aluminium reprocessing), "Sverdlovsk machine-building factory Ltd." (production of powered support, 40 kinds of attached implements, repairing of mining equipment].

The total production output in 1999 amounted to 679.3 m. UAH.

14 agricultural enterprises and more than 100 farms which produce meat, eggs, milk, grain, sunflower and vegetables work on the territory of Sverdlovsk.

The total exports in 1999 made up 89.3 m, $ US; imports – 14.5 m. $US

HUMAN RESOURCES

The total residential area is 2.6 m. sq. m

The medical care is provided by the 14 medical 4 establishments. The treatment and entertainment are provided by 2 sanatoriums, 8 health centers, 52 gyms, swimming pool and a stadium. Children attend 16 infant schools, 40 secondary schools, boarding school, evening school, 1 medical and 5 vocational schools.

INVESTMENT PROJECTS

The Town Council suggests reconstruction and implementing of new industrial enterprises to be invested first with the opportunity of employing retired miners. The priority industries are: coal, metallurgical, light, machine-building and agricultural. The enterprises have developed the investment projects worth 123.2 m.$ US.
