TERRITORY

Krasnodon is situated in the south-east of Luhansk region.

Its history and development the place started in the 17th century.

The total area is 77,33 sq. km.; population -122,500 people.

Molodogvargiysk and Suhudol's'k are subordinate to Krasnodon as a district center.

Krasnodon is 50 km from Luhansk, 7 km from the nearest railway station, 20 km - from Donetsk customs (Russia) by road, 50 km – from Dolzhns'k (Ukraine) - Novoschahtins'k (Russia) customs, 300 km -

from the seaport of Mariupol'.

There are important highways connecting Volgograd-Kischinev, buses which link Krasnodon with Rostov (Russia), Kharkov and Donetsk.

The main deposits - coal.

ECONOMY

The mail potential of the city is represented by 24 industrial enterprises, 8 transport, 17 building companies, 426 small enterprises.

1,940 individual entrepreneurs work there.

45,200 people are engaged in the economy of the city.

The district banking system is represented by "Industrial-Investment Bank", "Ukraine" Bank, State Saving Bank, representatives of the three insurance companies work there.

In terms of production output 71,8 % fall to coal mining, 14,3% - to machine building industries, 9.7 %-to food industry, 7,2 % -to other industries.

The biggest companies are "Krasnodon coal" (coal mining), Krasnodon plans

"Autoaggregate" (automobile production)," YunisT JSC (relay production), repair and Engineering works (steel and iron moulding, production of metal constructions). “Krasnodon meat packing factory” JSC (sausage production meat products and semi products). “Krasnodon dairy factory” JSC (dairy produce, vegetable fat, cheese), JSC “Krasnodonkharchovik” (soft drinks, macaroni, mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, vegetable oil refining), "Korovay" JSC (bakery produce). The total production output in 1999 amounted to more than 306 million UAH

HUMAN RESOURCES

The total residential area is 2,6 m. sq. m.

16 medical establishments, 9 of them are hospitals, which provide the population with the medical service.

There are ambulance stations, blood transfusion station and children's sanatorium.

26 schools work here. The staff is being prepared in four vocational schools, technical school and Krasnodon Faculty of Engineering and Management of the East Ukrainian State University.
