The area is 1,6 thousand sq. km.

     The population is 60,6 thousand people (with the country population of 36,7 thousand people). 58 populated stations are under the authority of the town, 21 village councils.

     Starobel'sk - the town and centre of the district. There is a railway station Starobelsk. The population is 23,9 thousand people.

     The main branch of the district is agricultural production. Here work 26 collective agricultural enterprises, 83 farms, 9 JSC and other enterprises processing produce of plant-growing and cattle-breeding.
