     The population is 35,4 thousand people, the village population is 23,8 thousand people. 52 small towns depend on 6 settlement and 10 village councils.   

     Krasnodon (till 1938 - Sorokino) - is a town of region dependence. It is situated in the south - eastern part of Donetsky crest on the river BolshayaKamenka, the tributary of the SeverskyDonets. There is a railway station in Krasnodon on the way Rodakovo-Lichay in the 48 km from Lugansk.

     The population is 128,8 thousand people.

     Two town consils - Molodogvardeisk and Sukhodolsk and 6 settlement councils - Gornensky, Isvarinsky, Krasnodonsky, Severny, Uralo-Kavkazsky, Engelsovsky depend on the town council.

     24 collective agricultural enterprises, 10 JSC, 124 farms work in the district. The basis of the economy of the district is agricultural production of meat and milk as well as vegetable-growing.
